"Since achieving its Digital Schools Award in 2019, Moorfoot Primary School has continued to strengthen and develop its digital leadership and vision. The school has embraced the opportunities and challenges presented by changes in education, particularly following the Covid-19 pandemic and the rollout of Midlothian’s 1:1 device programme, recognising the importance of equipping all learners with the digital skills they need for learning, life and work.
Digital learning remains a strategic priority within school improvement planning, reflecting a clear commitment to ensuring learners develop the skills required for learning, life and work. Leadership of digital learning is well established through a dedicated Digital Lead who engages in local authority networks, contributes to wider digital developments, supports colleagues and is dedicated to CLPL and this was shown through the ‘Google Workspace Gold Certificate’. As a small, rural school the digital lead highlighted that it is easier for staff to spend time together when there are digital questions or challenges. This collaborative approach is further strengthened through regular partnership working with a Digital Technologist within Midlothian Council, supporting both staff development and pupil wellbeing. The evidence demonstrates a strong commitment in continuing to build staff confidence and capability in using digital tools to enhance learning, particularly with regards to teaching year groups which are unfamiliar. As a result, pupils across the school, from ELC to P7, have regular opportunities to use technology in meaningful, creative and inclusive ways. Digital tools are used to support collaboration, communication and accessibility, helping to ensure that all learners can engage successfully with their learning.
Moorfoot has also extended its digital leadership beyond the classroom by engaging parents and carers in understanding how technology is used to support learning through open learning afternoons for families, meet the teacher discussions and personal projects which are completed at home and highlight the skills children are learning. This helps to strengthen partnerships between home and school and promotes a shared understanding of the benefits of digital learning.
Overall, the evidence shows a school that has successfully maintained the momentum of its original award, continuing to build a positive digital culture and a clear vision for the future that supports both learners and staff to thrive in an increasingly digital world."
